Who am I?

My Mission

Hey there! I’m R Jay Driskill, and I wear many creative hats. I’m a historical fiction author, an anthropologist, an archaeologist, an absorber of Philosophy, a multi-instrumental musician, songwriter, music producer, and an artist who loves painting acrylic on canvas and photography.

Before diving into the world of fiction, I worked in the newspaper business with some amazing friends at the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Chattanooga Times Free Press, and Gannett Newspapers. Those experiences taught me a lot about effective communication and honed my storytelling abilities.

Now, let’s talk where my heart lies. Historical fiction is my playground, where I blend meticulously researched facts with fictional narratives. Hopefully, it’s like time travel for readers, where forgotten characters and events come back to life, and I love it!

My brain gets lost in philosophies of the world; Nietzsche, Kant, Sophocles, and the list goes on and on. Although I’m not a teacher, as I’m way too much of a student, I love to write about ideas and thoughts I’ve discovered, and also to discuss them. If you do too, let’s talk!

But that’s not all. I’m a curious soul, always a student of philosophy and life, with a background in anthropology and archaeology. Exploring the depths of human culture and unearthing remnants of ancient civilizations gives me a whole new perspective on life. It’s like peering into a different world and connecting with the amazing richness of humanity and its origins.

When I’m not diving into history, I find solace in music. I’m a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and music producer. I love meandering through different genres and pouring my heart into melodies and lyrics. Music is my language of the soul, and I hope it resonates with you too.

And let’s not forget my love for visual art. Painting with acrylic on canvas is my way of capturing and releasing fleeting moments and emotions with every brushstroke. I hope to evoke wonder and spark your imagination. It’s my humble attempt at sharing the beauty I see in the world. I don’t call myself a photographer, but I lose myself in the beauty of souls of both people and the world captured in snapshots.

So, that’s a little glimpse into my creative journey. I’m thrilled to have you here, and I invite you to explore my novels, read my thoughts on philosophy and everything else, listen to my music, and browse through my artwork. I hope to inspire and connect with you through my various creative outlets.

Thanks for stopping by, and let’s embark on this creative adventure together!
